What Is a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)?
A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who practices under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). RBTs work with individuals who have developmental disabilities, such as autism, to help them learn new skills and reduce challenging behaviors.
RBTs are trained in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and are responsible for implementing behavior plans developed by a BCBA. They collect data on the individual’s progress and report it to the BCBA for analysis and treatment plan adjustments.
To become an RBT, one must complete a 40-hour training course and pass an exam administered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). RBTs must also undergo ongoing supervision and continuing education to maintain their certification.
RBTs work in a variety of settings, including schools, clinics, and in-home therapy. They play an essential role in the ABA therapy process and contribute to the overall success of individuals with developmental disabilities.
